The SIP Forum Announces Dates for the Second Annual SIPNOC -- SIP Network Operators Conference -- for the Worldwide Service Provider Community

The two-day educational conference for service providers to be held in Herndon, VA, June 25-27, 2012; SIPNOC 2012 US early bird registration to begin in mid-November

NORTH ANDOVER, MA (November 8, 2011) - The SIP Forum announced today that it will host the second annual SIP Network Operators Conference (SIPNOC US 2012), a two day educational conference focusing on the challenges and opportunities related to the deployment of SIP-based carrier services globally. SIPNOC US 2012 will be held in Herndon, VA on June 25-27, 2012 and will build on the success of the inaugural event last spring, which attracted leading technical and operations personnel from the global carrier community and earned high praise from attendees for its educational, non-commercial and technical content that focused on the real-world challenges operators face when deploying SIP services in global IP networks.

“SIP network implementations continue to grow within the international service provider community and with the acceleration of global SIP internetworking across new geographies and diverse network topologies come new technological, logistical and business challenges that need to be addressed, and that was the impetus for SIPNOC,” said SIP Forum Chairman of the Board Richard Shockey. “Prior to last year’s inaugural event, the network operator community had very few options for coming together to meet, discuss and share ideas and knowledge about SIP implementation issues in a non-commercial, technically-oriented setting. SIPNOC provides that unique setting.”

The SIP Forum will release further details about SIPNOC US 2012 including sign-up for early bird registration in mid-November at its conference website SIP Forum - SIPNOC US 2012 Overview

SIPNOC 2012 will bring together leading technical minds from the telecommunications industry to learn, discuss and formulate new ideas and strategies concerning the challenges and opportunities for SIP-based carrier services in fixed and mobile IP network environments. The conference, which is designed specifically for SIP network operations personnel and engineering staff, will feature well-known industry speakers and a number of highly technical educational and instructional panels and sessions. The SIP Forum will also host networking events at the conference and offer a series of informal “Birds of a Feather” sessions, which encourage discussion of varying topics held in hallways, available meeting rooms and break-out areas.

“SIPNOC is yet another element of the SIP Forum’s event portfolio that demonstrates our dedication to providing technical guidance and support of the SIP protocol across all audiences,” said Marc Robins, President and Managing Director of the SIP Forum. “Based on the success of last year’s event and the ensuing response from our membership and colleagues worldwide, we expect this event to continue and grow for some time.”

SIPNOC 2012 will build on themes first discussed at last year’s inaugural event: addressing issues critical to the reliable and successful deployment and operation of SIP-based services in carrier networks and the opportunities that come with it. Among the topics expected to be on the agenda at this year’s conference are SIP trunking interoperability and the SIP Forum’s recently ratified SIPconnect 1.1 technical specification that provides a definitive and standardized set of guidelines for seamless, end-to-end interoperability between SIP-enabled IP-PBXs and service provider networks. Other themes to be discussed include Fax over Internet protocol (FoIP) interworking, implementing SIP with IPv6, and the sharing of best practices for the utilization of Wireshark for network diagnostics within IP network environments.

“We created SIPNOC with the intention of providing a meeting place for the international community of communications engineers and network operations professionals who deal with the real-world intricacies of SIP on a day-to-day basis,” added Robins. “We want to build on the positive momentum from last year’s event where were able to initiate discussions that are already having a tangible, positive impact on the global SIP networking community. We expect this year’s event to be even more successful.”

Building on the success of these US-based SIPNOC events, the SIP Forum is expected to announce details for a Europe-based event - SIPNOC EU 2012. The dates and location of the next event will be released later this year.

SIPNOC US 2012 will be held at the Hyatt Dulles Hotel in Herndon, VA June 25 -27, 2012. The event website is located at SIP Forum - SIPNOC US 2012 Overview.

Attendees at SIPNOC US 2012 will include telecommunications providers, major backbone operators, interconnect and wholesale solution providers, ISPs, cable operators, wireless network operators as well as large enterprises deploying major SIP initiatives. At last year’s SIPNOC 2011, informational presentations were made by a number of industry professionals from organizations such as Comcast Cable, Cox Communications, Sprint Nextel, CableLabs and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Dr. Douglas C. Sicker, Chief Technologist at the Federal Communications Commission, provided the keynote speech.

The SIP Forum has gained an international reputation for developing important, educational events surrounding SIP. The organization’s SIPit series of interoperability testing events regularly provides a test bed for SIP-based applications and equipment that has been heralded as critical for the development of new products and services in the industry. The SIP Forum also has a number of committees and task groups made up of well-known industry experts examining a myriad of SIP-related topics, including the use of SIP in smart grid installations, FoIP, video, and user-agent configuration.

snom technology Unveils New Provisioning Solution to Accelerate Enterprise VoIP and Unified Communications Deployments for snom Distributors and Resellers

- snom Active provides the secure, automatic provisioning, configuration and administration of snom phones when implemented with Microsoft Lync, IP PBX or hosted VoIP solutions – speeding installation and activation and reducing deployment cost and complexity -

Woburn, Mass. (November 1, 2011) - snom technology AG, a leading developer of IP desktop phones and IP communications solutions, today introduced snom Active, a new secure and hosted provisioning solution for snom IP phones being deployed as part of an integrated business IP telephony or unified communication (UC) system. snom Active provides snom distributors and certified value-added resellers (VARs) with a free advanced provisioning and management tool for snom phones and endpoints that boosts the speed and efficiency of the deployment process for VARs’ implementing VoIP or UC in the enterprise.
“snom Active gives our channel community a powerful solution for managing their fleet of snom desktop phones for enterprise-scale VoIP or unified communication implementations during the earliest stages of deployment - provisioning and configuration - when speed and efficiency are the most critical success factors,” said Mike Storella, snom COO. “By making the registration and activation process of snom phones faster, simpler and more scalable, snom Active can exponentially improve the implementation process for enterprise VoIP or UC enabling our snom distributors and resellers to grow their top line while reducing their bottom line in the process.”
snom Active provides snom partners with the remote capability for bulk configuration, provisioning and ongoing administration of snom’s SIP endpoints, including live updates of snom software and firmware. As a hosted, web-based service, snom Active offers VARs a highly reliable platform to manage and provision hundreds to thousands of snom phones across multiple distributed sites.
snom Active features include:
• Auto provisioning
• Managed snom subdomain
• Guaranteed 99.999% system uptime
• Bulk phone configuration
• Fleet and system-wide management and administration
• “White label” hosting opportunities
• Custom setup (office and end user level profiles)
• Full remote deployability
• Unlimited re-registerability on handsets
• Full HTTPS config traffic
• Managed password protection
• Military-grade security

Seamless UC support
The snom Active hosted provisioning service provides full support of the entire portfolio of snom phones in unified communications environments, including the snom 3xx and snom 8xx series’ of desktop phones, the snom m9 cordless DECT phone, and additional snom endpoints, including the snom Meetingpoint conference phone and the snom PA1 public address system.
Fast and Efficient snom provisioning with Microsoft Lync 2010
snom Active also supports the snom UC line of Microsoft Lync 2010-qualifed snom phones, including the snom 300 UC edition and the snom 821 UC edition, bringing the speed and simplicity of configuration and provisioning to large enterprises deploying snom UC phones with Microsoft Lync. snom Active with Lync also allows for managed password protection, meaning system and IT management do not need to know end-user passwords, which complies with access security protocols in many organizations.
Broad deployment with IP PBX, hosted and managed VoIP business services
For VARs offering hosted, managed or IP PBX communications services with snom endpoints, snom Active offers an easy-to-use management platform with guaranteed uptime and a new level of scaled network visibility and manageability.
By streamlining most provisioning and management functions of a snom IP telephony system, snom Active helps maximize cost efficiencies by eliminating costs associated with support, administration and maintenance. Official snom distributors and certified snom VARs can also qualify to offer hosted “white label” snom Active provisioning service, a customized and branded solution that snom channel partners can offer to their end customers.
The snom Active service is now available free of charge to certified snom resellers and official distributors worldwide.

TE Connectivity and ip.access introduce integrated Small Cell and DAS

TE Connectivity and ip.access introduce integrated Small Cell and DAS
voip news
TE Connectivity (TE) and ip.access today announced that the two companies have teamed to create the world’s first all-digital integrated Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and small cell base station for WCDMA services. The solution uses ip.access' E16 picocell access point integrated with TE’s InterReach Spectrum or InterReach Fusion DAS products to provide a one-stop system for enterprises wishing to improve mobile service in their facilities. The solution will be presented in TE’s booth #2A61 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 27 through March 1, 2012.

Under terms of the agreement, ip.access furnishes a baseband processing unit with the same features as its E16 3G picocell, integrated into a single card that can be inserted into TE’s InterReach Spectrum digital DAS. The system eliminates A/D and D/A converters and RF interfacing equipment since the ip.access base station is connected directly to the DAS, improving signal quality while reducing heat dissipation, power consumption and deployment space.

“This integrated DAS and small cell system brings a new level of simplicity and ease of deployment to enterprise mobile networks,” said Simon Brown, chief executive officer of ip.access. “Our E16 picocell provides the capacity enterprises need for their mobile users with cost-effective Ethernet backhaul, while the TE DAS products distribute that capacity throughout a facility or campus.”

ip.access' small cell access points use the 3GPP standard Iuh interface for connection to the wireless service provider's network, enabling the E16 to interoperate not only with ip.access' own small cell gateways and management system, but also with third party standards-based small cell gateways. This makes the integrated DAS solution very flexible, and allows it to support multi-operator deployments from a single installation. The solution provides precision capacity to specific areas and the ability to move capacity over distances, making the most out of the service provider assets.

“We believe integrating DAS and small cell base stations is the wave of the future as more enterprises and other venues see the need for enhanced mobile network capacity and coverage,” said Chris Jurasek, vice president and general manager of TE Wireless and Services. “Our long relationship with ip.access has now resulted in a breakthrough system that addresses the need for small cell coverage and capacity in thousands of locations.”

The integrated small cell/DAS system supporting WCDMA will be available for demonstrations in the summer of 2012. An LTE system is planned for early 2013.

Voip news
Ozeki Ltd has introduced the newest feature of its software development kit, Ozeki VoIP SIP SDK. The feature is called “Video calling” and includes great potential. Ozeki VoIP SIP SDK has been known for its various possibilities of creating VoIP products. Now, it was time for these possibilities to be extended with one of the most demanded function of today’s life: video chat.
Ozeki Ltd is at the end of this progress now. The new function is available in the latest version of Ozeki VoIP SIP SDK. The component is available for download at the company’s website. The SDK is not only for professional developers – it can easily be used with little knowledge on programming, too. Ozeki VoIP SIP SDK includes different codes and samples which can all be integrated in any VoIP product without difficulties.
Among other functions, now you can try out the new video calling feature. The relevant code part simply has to be integrated into your program or service. With this feature you can provide live video calling availability on your website. This is standalone, because the users (website visitors) do not have to download the component itself for making calls.
Video calling function is Ozeki Ltd’s answer to the growing demand for making telecommunication more realistic every day. Video calling can be an everyday thing in our lives in a short time, but there is no reason for not being among the pioneers of this technology.
